Cub Scouting is fun for the whole family. Boys and girls enjoy hands-on learning and achievement that puts kids in the middle of the action and prepares them for today – and for life.
Cub Scout activities are centered around earning badges that are specific to each school grade level. This badge represents a rank. Advancement refers to the progress a Cub Scout makes toward their badge of rank. All of the activities for each rank are in the Cub Scout handbooks. Based on different topics such as hiking, nature, science, citizenship, first aid, sports, and more, adventures are earned as a Cub Scout advances toward their badge of rank. Once an adventure is completed, a Cub Scout receives recognition in the form of an adventure loop or adventure pin.

First graders, and anyone beyond that grade who is new to Cub Scouting, completes the Bobcat Badge prior to working on their grade-specific badge of rank. Kindergartners, who are Lions, do not work on the Bobcat Badge.
How: Hold your right arm straight up, with your index and middle finger separated, like a peace sign.
Why: The two raised fingers stand for the Scout Oath and the Scout Law. The fingers look like the sharp ears of the wolf, ready to listen to Akela.
When: When ever you see another hold the sign, you are to copy it, look and listen for the pack's next direction.
How: The salute is made by joining the index and middle fingers of the right hand (holding the other fingers with the thumb) and touching the extended fingers to the cap visor or forehead.
Why: You salute the flag to show respect to our country for the Pledge of Allegiance. Touch your fingertips to your right eyebrow or cap
When: Give the Cub Scout salute when you are in your Cub Scout uniform, indoors and out doors
How: put the index and middle fingers of the right hand against the other person's wrist when shaking hands.
Why: The Cub Scout handshake is used by Cubs and leaders to show that those who use it help others and obey the Scout Oath and Law.
When: If meeting other scouts or leader, or in award ceremonies.
Kindergartners work toward the Lion rank. Lion Scouts have fun exploring and doing adventures that move them ahead towards their Lion rank. Participation with an adult partner is required for all Lions.
Tiger Scouts is an exciting scouting program for first grade youth ready to get going! Tigers do stuff - lots of stuff - and all with their adult partners. This program is intended to open up the world to inquisitive minds along with the caring guidance of adults. The first steps along the Scouting Trail are laid here and every rank advancement through the scouting program builds on the basic activities done as Tigers.
Second graders work toward the Wolf rank. Wolf den gives each scout a chance to work on leadership skills in small but meaningful amounts. The Wolf Den Leader signs for each requirement in the Adventure Tracking pages in the back of the Wolf handbook.
Third graders work toward the Bear rank. The Bear rank is earned by completing adventures that are extensions of previous ideas. But now that your scouter has more physical and mental abilities the adventures get more exciting. Bear rank has many hands on active outdoor activities and life skills presented in engaging ways.
Fourth graders work toward the Webelos rank. The skills being learned are reintroduced with the idea of starting to lead a group.
Arrow of Light is for 5th grade youth to prepare to join a Scouts BSA troop while learning outdoors skills and participating in many adventures. A well-run group, is a gradual change from being an 'adult-run' den to being a 'scout-run' patrol ready to fit right into an adventurous Scouts BSA troop. This migration requires the parents and den leaders to give the scouts more and more control, decision-making power, and responsibility as they progress in skills, abilities, and maturity.
